 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

SmartSantander proposes a unique in the world city-scale experimental research facility in support of typical applications and services for a smart city. Tangible results are expected to greatly influence definition and specification of Future Internet architecture design from viewpoints of Internet of Things and Internet of Services. The facility will comprise of more than 20,000 sensors. It will utilise the results of two major EU-funded projects, SENSEI and WISEBED, in creating a secure and open platform of heterogeneous technologies.

Such a unique facility with practical experience gained and feedbacks received, enables better understanding and insight into issues of:

    - Required capacity

    - Scalability

    - Interoperability

    - Stimulation of faster development of new and innovative applications

    - Influence specification of FI architecture design

The SmartSantander will enable the Future Internet of Things to become a reality.

Besides taking the Technical Management role in order to guarantee the cooperation of all the partners towards the same technical objectives, the UC will actively contribute on the identification of functional and non functional requirements and design goals for the different functional components of an architectural reference model which will support the integration of heterogeneous IoT technologies into a large scale real life experimental facility. Additionally, the UC will work on the design and development of the components that support mobility testing, data management and cloud computing, service innovation, and federation. Moreover, the UC will coordinate the deployment of the SmartSantander experimental facility. Likewise UC will improve and enhance selected services by adding IoT devices utilizing services provided by the experimental research facility deployed in Santander. Finally, UC will ensure the sustainable exploitation of the testbed beyond the project timeframe.
