BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
The GSM explosion, with more than 400 million users worldwide, has converted the mobile telephone into a universal card reader. The use of the new OTA and S@T technologies has permitted the combination of the main mobile characteristics, access to information from anywhere, and those of cards, cryptographic capabilities, and has enabled the development of secure web services in the mobile phone.
In collaboration with Amena, and with the technological backing of Gemplus, the OTTIUC is working on exporting the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card part of the functionalities associated with the TUI. Students of the University of Cantabria can consult their marks or reserve sports installations directly from their mobiles. The start of Mobipay, which enables payment to be charged to debit/credit cards form the mobile phone, complements this type of services. For example, in the case of reservations of sports installations, the user can pay directly, without needing to go near any bank.
