 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

ATLANTIDA Project tries to overcome scientific and technological challenges that limit the possibilities of air traffic management processes automation, contributing to innovative perspectives to increase the capacity of air transport system, becoming more efficient and safer, and less contaminant.

The main objectives of ATLANTIDA are the following ones:

    - Develop a rigorous scientific-technical approach for the introduction of a high degree of automation in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system.

    - Investigate the behaviour of ATM system automation under laboratory conditions, with the help of unnamed aerial vehicles (UAVs).

    - Analyze the extrapolation of the developed approach within a real ATM context.

The results derived from ATLANTIDA Project will contribute to the continuity of a sharp and sustainable development in European air traffic, together with the huge industrial, economic, social and environmental involvements that this implies, in terms of global industrial leadership, economic dynamism, high qualification jobs creation, energetic consumption and, in short, sustainable mobility.

The role of the group within this project focuses on the following activities:

    - Identify and analyze the different communications protocols and technologies available, for the data link between ground and air stations.

    - Elect the most appropriate communications technology, and design and implement a proprietary protocol for data transmission/reception between air and ground stations.

    - Characterize communications module through a measurement campaign under laboratory conditions.
