BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT
University of Cantabria developed an application, AdaptaCan, devoted to disabled people contracted by the social activities/programmes of Caja Cantabria. AdaptaCan is a guide for disabled people that includes accessibility information of different points of interest. 34 categories of POIs have been identified (administrations, bars, shopping centres, etc).
AdaptaCan allows the user to specify different searching criteria. Searches by name, address, type of POI, city and accessibility characteristics are permitted. Once the application shows the results, the user can select one of them, which is then detailed in a new window. This interface allows the user to create routes by means of a GPS navigator to this destination or to the nearby parking area reserved for disabled people. It may also show the point in the map, which can also be added to the favourite list of the user. The application is not only limited to the graphical interface, it includes sounds to guide the user across the application.
