 OBJECTIVES

The main objective of this course is to analyze the different existing data network types. The students will perform the configuration of a Local Area Network (LAN) Ethernet, as well as its interconnection with another LAN, through a X.25 WAN, and using routers. Protocol sniffers will be used, so as to analyze the information exchange between final systems, including application layer in TCP/IP, PPP and Novell architectures. Furthermore, a client/server application will be implemented, based on the Socket API. Finally, the Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology will be studied based on the IEEE 802.11 protocol.

 SYLLABUS
  Lab Session I.

TCP/IP architecture analysis with a protocol analyzer and network monitoring tools.

  Lab Session II.

Design and implementation of a client/server application, using sockets.

  Lab Session III.

Novell Netware 3.11 protocol architecture analysis with an Ethernet network protocol analyzer. Access from native Novell and IP devices.

  Lab Session IV.

PPP Protocol analysis for the point-to-point access to TCP/IP networks, over the PSTN and the ISDN.

  Lab Session V.

Introduction to WLAN based on the IEEE 802.11 standard.
